Hot Sexy Naked Blood Suckers or its just a book review ....lol

Today's Spotlight is on author Amelia Mah

I'd like to welcome Amelia Mah today to Not Enough Time in the Day. She's graciously agreed to be our first Saturday Spotlight author. Fangs Rule: a Girl's Guide to Being a Vampire and her new release Amy Mah Vampire (Night Life) document the ups and downs of being a teenage vampire. Let's get started shall we? Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi my name is Amy, ok my full Vampire name is: Lady Amelia Mistress of the Night Mare but I prefer to shorten mine to Amy Mah (Vampire) or just Amy to my friends. For those who do not know me I should point out that I used to be a feral vamp living in the outside world raised by humans until I was discovered and adopted into Vampire society. In the human world life was very difficult for me, I knew I needed blood but did not know how to get it, all I had was human books and films telling all kinds of stuff that was useless like I can change into a bat, and that is so not true as I tried it and all it does is make you look stupid as you flap your arms up and down! It was while living with humans I started writing my own little journal, recording what it is like being a teenage vampire, I know that a lot of it will be very obvious but I started it when I knew very little about Vampire-ing…

What inspires you to write?
Well I have lots of stories playing in my head so it’s either become a writer or start wearing white jackets that tie your arms behind your back.  If it was not for being able to step into my own world I expect I would go crazy.

Do your stories tend to be character driven or plot driven?
The characters. The plot just seems to happen on its own. Nothing is ever planned. I just provide the fingers on the keyboard.

In what ways are your characters like you? In what ways are your characters not like you?
The main character is just like me.  Yes, she is very like me. In fact we both have the same name! Ok so we are a little different, like she can hang from the ceiling by her foot claws where as I would be lucky to hold onto a ladder with two hands.
I based her on my own childhood and yes I did have a very odd upbringing. I remember sleeping on roofs as a child. Well we had a flat roof and it was so much fun on a hot summers night to wear PJ’s and snuggle up in a sleeping bag staring up at the stars and yes my PJ’s did have bats on them. Ho, those were the days!
I now own panties with bats on! See I did say I was crazy. I will try and add a pic of them to this just to prove it.

What are the recurring core issues in your stories?
I can remember all the embarrassing stuff that all teenagers go through and I show that they are the same when you happen to be a different species and to this day I still think boys happen to be a different species with or without fangs.

In the book I talk of the problems with simple things like wrapping a tower around yourself when coming out of a shower, this sort of thing definitely comes from my high school days where for fun girls used to pull off other girls towels so you had to run after them naked, apart from the writing has it affected me? Well if ever see me wear just a towel in company nowadays I would be the one with that comes with a belt!

My vampire world has lots of rules and when something happens then there is a reason for it. You can see how the main characters run up against rules and what happens to them when they do. Normally it is very funny to watch.

Why do you think you are drawn to these types of characters/plots again and again?
I try to put myself into a situation and then look around and think heck how would I get out of this. As I said, the world has rules and my characters are not super heroes.

Just because a vampire has better teeth than most people all it means is they need to brush them more often!

What are your favorite fiction genres to read from?
I love funny novels.

What are your favorite non-fiction genres to read from?
History, yes I so love history.

Where can we find your book Fangs Rule: A Girl's Guide to Being a Vampire and your new book Amy Mah Vampire (Nightlife)?

And

Give the core premise behind your story.
Today's world is difficult for everyone, especially teenagers.
They face the stresses of school, deciding whom to date, and the biggie of sex, just to name a few.  Imagine all of those things ten times worse, and you might get an idea of what it's like being a living, breathing teenage vampire.

At last, the world can read about the life of a girl with good teeth, her problems with strong sunlight that gave her spots, and the sunblock that made her hair go yucky and produced more spots. Yes, sunlight was dangerous, as she could be the first teenager in history to die from terminal acne!

In her everyday life, older vampires expected her to walk about at night in the traditional female uniform, a see-through, 18th-century nightdress, without undies! Well, this female vampire knew why the cold winds blowing along the corridors were called, "male winds," so she wore her see-through nightdress over jeans and a very thick jumper. To be sure that people would still know she was a vampire, the jumper had a very large, pink bat on it.

And as to guys, well, it was normal for a girl to dream about guys; she just wished the dreams could have involved chocolates and holding hands, not leaping out at someone, ripping off his shirt, and demanding to know what blood type he was (well at least not on the first date).

When and where does your book take place?
With a world filled with blood sucking denizens of the night (vampires) you want me to give you a location? Ok, think of it as America and as to the time well, about right now. ;)

Who is the heroine?
Amy Mah who is a teenage girl that finds she is stuck as a teenager for far too long.

What drives her?
Day to day living, the same that drives most people.

What is she running away from (literally or figuratively)?
Mostly humans that want to kill her just because she has better teeth than they do.

What about her will make readers sympathetic to her?
Anyone who is a teenager or lived through the teenage years will know her problems.

What is the theme at the heart of your story?
Growing up and being different

Will your new book be part of a series?
Yes I hope it is, but it will depend if people buy this one. If they do then it will be the first in the Night Life series.
Last Year I did a book which is a guide to help to understand my vampire world it is called FANGS RULE: A Girls Guide to Being a Vampire”
Its done as an A to Z of what to expect to happen as a teenage vampire, a self help book if you will. The guide is fully illustrated by manga Artist Heby and is written in an easy to follow A - Z format explaining everything a teenage vampire girl would need to know about living life as a modern Vampire. What is fashionable to wear when eating out? Fang maintenance & how to keep your claws sharp. Should you let a boy bite you on the first date? Easy to understand clear advice is given to every day problems Example: When you get an urge to bite: We all get those normal urges to bite things, and I must point out it is very normal. Claws are all well and good in a fight but a bite gives the extra advantage of getting a refreshing drink at the same time. Lots of girls worry about showing their Fangs in public believing that to show your fangs is rude, but don't be shy they can be a girls greatest asset (ok second greatest asset) if a boy is being rude to you, don't just snarl at him, bite him! You are a vampire why do you think you have sharp teeth if not for sinking them into a boy that is being rude to you?

Very good point, Amy! Where else can we find more about you and your books?

You can find me at my website http://www.fangsrule.com and at The Vampire Book Realm http://www.vampirebookrealm.com/

Thank you so much for joining us here today, Amy! Life as a teenager is rough enough, but being a vampire on top of it has to be even harder.

As an extra special treat, here are two of Amy's videos for you to enjoy.

More on sun worship

The worship of the sun, or heliolatry (Gr. ‘helios’: Sun and ‘latry’: worship or excessive devotion), is known to have been prevalent since the beginning of recorded history of man. Sun worship was very important among many cultures; particularly the Egyptian, Indo-European (Greek, Roman, Babylonian, Persian, Sumerian, Vedic Aryan etc), and Meso-American (Aztec, Mixtec, Maya etc) cultures. The influence of the sun was also important or formed an integral part of religious beliefs of, among others, the Druids of England, the Incas of Peru and many Native North American tribes. Among Eastern religions, Japanese mythology refers to ‘Amaterasu’ the Sun Goddess, while there are distinct influences of sun worship in certain forms of Buddhism. Sun worship has been a very important element of ancient and modern Hinduism.

Hinduism, as we know it today, is believed to have evolved over thousands of years, from a blend of the religious beliefs of the ancient indigenous ‘Indus Valley’ culture and the Vedic beliefs of invading (circa 2000–1500 BCE)  Indo-European ‘Aryan’ tribes from central Asia. The Vedas (the Rig-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, the Sama-Veda and the Atharva-Veda) and related texts (BrahmanasAranyakasUpanishadsand Puranas) are the sacred literature of Hinduism and are the oldest surviving scriptures still in use.

The Aryans were nature-worshipers who visualized the elements as warrior-like Gods; such as Indra(the god of thunder and of war); Surya (the sun god); Agni (the fire god); Vayu (the god of wind); andVaruna (the god of the oceans). These were important gods (Devas) of the Vedic pantheon and Indrawas the ruler of the gods.  Over time, as the Vedic religion assimilated local influences and evolved into Hinduism, the importance of some of the minor early Vedic gods, such as Vishnu (one of the three main gods of Hinduism today, along with Brahma and Shiva) increased manifold. On the other hand, the importance of the original main gods waned to very minor levels – except for Surya, who maintained an important position throughout the process of transformation of Hinduism over millennia. Even today, devout Hindus start their day at sunrise, with the ritualistic Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation). TheSurya Namaskar is explained in detail in the Vedas; specifically, the first chapter of the Tattritiya Aranyaka of the Krishna Yajur-Veda). The Gayatri Mantra, one of the most sacred of Hindu hymns, is also dedicated to the Sun.

In the Vedas, the Sun-god is described as a handsome golden youth triumphantly riding across the heavens in a chariot drawn by seven horses, each representing a day of the week. The Swastika (a holy symbol of Hinduism) is the sign of Surya and symbolizes his generosity without which there would be no life. There are a number of important Sun temples across the Indian subcontinent and additionally, many Shiva temples have a small shrine dedicated to Surya. Hinduism comprises diverse sects or denominations practicing different rituals and worshiping different gods of the Hindu pantheon. The Vaishnavites (followers of Vishnu); the Shaivites (followers of Shiva); the Shaktas (followers ofDevi or Shakti); and the Smartas (followers of a combination of five main deities including Surya) being the main. There is, incidentally, a small sect called the Sauras whose main deity is Surya himself. However, the veneration of Surya is common across all denominations of Hinduism.

In Buddhism, another of the great oriental religions, there are distinct indications from various temple and cave iconography, of the influence of the Sun-god and the venerable position held by Him. An example is the series of relatively well preserved images in the Central Asian (now Xingjian Province, China) Kizil caves, where a Sun-god (paired with a Moon-god) is shown along with the Buddha. There are also carvings of the Sun-god on pillars and lintels of many ancient Buddhist temples in India.

The notion of the influence of the sun is further reinforced by references in Buddhist texts, to the Buddha as ‘Aditya Bandhu’ (Sanskrit: ‘Bandhu’ – ‘friend’ or ‘kinsman’ and ‘Aditya’- another name for the sun). Buddhism as a religion does not propagate sun worship (in fact it prohibits it) and references to the Sun god do not form a part of any important doctrine. However, the influence of the sun, as a building block of the Buddhist cosmos, cannot be denied. Further, the early Buddhists believed that Gautama Buddha was the only Buddha.  Subsequently, however, the Mahayana version of Buddhism, propagated that the Buddha was but one in a series, and introduced the concept of ‘Bodhisattvas’(beings of wisdom) as already enlightened persons who could take on ‘Buddhahood’. It is interesting to note that in Mahayana Buddhist texts, many of these Bodhisattvas were endowed with sun-like qualities.

The Japanese religion, prior to the dominance of Buddhism, was a spirit based religion in which the Sun-god was the supreme spirit among a host of lesser spirits. In the Shinto religion, however, the Sun-goddess, Amaterasu, was the central figure. Later, when Buddhism was in ascendancy in Japan, Shinto priests employed a clever mechanism to reconcile the Shinto and Buddhist faiths by claiming that Amaterasu was an incarnation of the Buddha.

Sun worship (and also moon worship), world wide, can be traced with reasonable certainty to the fact that these were the two brightest celestial bodies seen to be traversing the firmament, by early man. However, the deification and worship of the sun was institutionalized mainly in agrarian societies, where man was dependant on the weather for his livelihood and well being. Based on this reasoning, it would be realistic to assume that sun worship would be a common phenomenon across all early societies.  Research has, however, shown that this has not been the case. It appears that sun worship was limited to only relatively advanced early societies such as the Mexican and Peruvian Indians, the Egyptians and, of course, the pre-Vedic and Vedic societies in India. This was probably due to the fact that such societies had developed the knowledge and intelligence to appreciate the fact of natural laws governing the movements of these celestial bodies.

True Blood by Danielle & Christy Vampire Awareness Month VAM10

True Blood by Danielle & Christy Vampire  Awareness Month VAM10

Now this is another TV Series that I love, from the music that is so cool to Eric the blond and very sexy Viking Vampire.

We absolutely LOVE  True Blood. We love it enough to pay an extra 10 bucks a month for the HBO channels ONLY during True Blood season :) We were completely thrown off at first with all the differences between the books and the show, but we have not only come to adjust to them, but also look forward to them. We get excited about what is going to happen next, and we hate having to wait an entire week to see what is going on with our favorite characters, which is almost all of them by the way!

Q1-
So they say that the Sookie in the show is a lot different from the Sookie in the book, personality wise. What do you guys think?

D- well… I don't know about that, I mean in the books she is so kick ass, I practically devoured each and every one I got. She is a bit guarded and kind of keeps to herself r a lot of the time due to the fact that she is 'small town' and people think she is a little crazy. But she only seems that way in the beginning of the series.  Also in the first season of True Blood she comes off as kind of naive, but as the seasons progress she totally out grows that and will tell someone off in a heartbeat!!

C-I have to agree mostly. Sookie is very different in the first season than I perceived her to be in the first book. I also think that she grows with the series and has grown out of some of the “naïve” although I think that she could still be a little tougher toward some people. It seems to me that she is still soft when it comes to certain other characters while with others she has toughened up.

Q2-
Do you think they should stick to the script and have Sookie and Eric eventually hook up, or do you think the flirting coming from Alicide is going to go any further??

D- well, since I am a Team Vampire type of girl, I really want them to stick to the script and have Sookie and Eric hooking up. Hell I want them to cast me and I will gladly hook up with Eric :) teehee
C-I always wanted Sookie to be with Alcide when I was reading the books, and it kind of  disappointed me when she just blew him off. He is such a good guy and Eric is just…well…an egotistical ass J

Q3-
Do you think they are ever going to introduce Bubba into the show? Do you feel they should?

D- No, I don't think they are going to. If they were it would have already happened. I mean he is a pretty loved character from the books and should be on screen by now. I wish they had brought him to life, but no I don't feel they should bring him in now.
C-Um…DUH…I really want them to introduce Bubba! He was so much fun in the books! I was honestly looking forward to meeting him on screen J but I have to agree with Danielle, I think that if they were going to introduce him they would have already.

Q4-
As of the last episode of True Blood, we discovered that Tara is bisexual. Did either of you see that coming?

D- absolutely NOT... OMG I was freaked.. I mean it is something that is kind of expected considering everything she has been thru, but I was like DAMN MAN, lol… It only adds to her character being so unbelievably unpredictable, and I LOVE IT.

C-I was completely dumbfounded! I never saw that one coming! I stood up and screamed at my TV “What the Heck? OMG I can’t believe that!”

We hope that if you haven’t watched True Blood or read the books you will consider starting NOW! A lot of people say that the series is just “soft core porn” and we totally see where they can get this idea but it is an amazing series. Ms. Charlaine Harris is a very talented author and we are so glad we were introduced to her books. Even more so that they made a TV series out of them J
